The work day ends. The good ideas don’t.
Ask anyone on our team where a product idea really started, and it’s rarely “in a planning meeting.” It’s usually somewhere after: a conversation that ran long, a half-serious “what if we tried…” at the end of a day, a game that turned into an argument about game design.
That’s what Backbencher After Hours is about.
What it is
After Hours is our name for the time when the team steps away from deadlines and just hangs out. There’s no agenda and no slides. It’s a chance for the people who build these products to talk to each other without a task list in the way.
Sometimes we play games, sometimes we just talk, and either way it resets everyone. Some of the best moments are the loose conversations, the kind where someone says “wait, what if…” and suddenly half the room is sketching on a whiteboard. Underneath all of it is a simple belief: when a team actually enjoys being around each other, the work shows it.
Why we protect this time
It’s easy to treat every hour as production time. We’ve learned the opposite: some of our clearest product decisions came from conversations that weren’t “work” at all. Card Freaky, Veyro VPN, and Hidayah each carry small fingerprints from moments like these: a feature suggested over a game, a design argument that got settled over dinner.
The people behind the products
Behind every app on this site is a small team that cares about what they ship. After Hours is where that shows most: the humor, the debates, the inside jokes that never make it into a release note but somehow shape the way we work.
What’s next
We’ll keep sharing glimpses of life inside the studio: the process, the people, and the occasional controlled chaos. If you want to see how we build, and who’s building it, follow along.
